Our Story

Founded in 2015, Beams of Hope Uganda is a locally led non-governmental organization committed to addressing community challenges through innovative, inclusive, and sustainable interventions in sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), health, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), education, agriculture and livelihoods, skills development, environmental conservation, and socio-economic empowerment

Since its inception, BHU has inspired change in many lives in Uganda through medical and disaster response missions, community and children’s programs, skills training and livelihood, and water and sanitation projects.

But more than material assistance, it brings the message of hope and a new beginning to people who are suffering. That is the hallmark of every BHU program.

Nurturing Every Child's Potential

Every child in Uganda deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. Our Children's Programs provide comprehensive support to vulnerable, abandoned, orphaned, and disabled children across the country.

Through child sponsorship, educational support, healthcare access, and psychosocial care, we ensure that no child is left behind. We work closely with local communities, schools, and families to create a nurturing environment where children can reach their full potential.

Healthcare for All

In Uganda, many vulnerable people are suffering from medical conditions that could be helped with medical care. Too many of them they can’t afford the surgeries they need.

Through your support, BHU partners with other pharmaceutical companies and local hospitals to maximize our ability to provide medicine, care and treatment that patients from poor and very remote communities need.

Your support also allows BHU to train Community Health Volunteers to serve as affront line health promoters in remote villages where medical care is hard to reach, bringing vital help and inform to those in need. In poor, rural communities these volunteers can provide lifesaving basic care and health education to locals for injuries, illness, pregnancy and more. BHU also equips these CHVs with first aid kits and other medical supplies to share with the whole community.

No Water, No Life. No Blue, No Green.

In many communities, drinking a sip of water can be extremely hazardous and even deadly. Sadly, many people in vulnerable communities in Uganda have no choice but to get their water in contaminated streams or pond. Contamination that cause countless children to die needlessly from diarrhea and typhoid.

In many communities, young girls sacrifice their education to carry water but with these wells not only shorten the distance to clean water, but also free up time so they can attend school. Through your support you are giving families, villages and communities access to clean drinking water, which help to reduce water-borne illness, improve their quality of life and provide better economic and educational opportunities

Access to clean and safe water is essential for healthy and thriving communities. Our Clean Water Initiative works to provide reliable water sources to underserved villages, helping families access safe drinking water closer to their homes.

By improving access to clean water, we reduce waterborne diseases, improve sanitation and hygiene, support education by reducing time spent fetching water, and enhance the overall quality of life for children and families. Through your support you are giving to families, villages, and communities to access clean drinking water, is helping to reduce water borne illnesses, improve their quality of life and provide better economic and educational opportunities.

Nourishing Communities

We provide food to children and families in hunger stricken communities in Uganda, as well as training on the importance of a nutritious diet.

We also supply villages and schools with agricultural training, irrigation systems, chicken coops and farm animals. These offer struggling people a chance to grow food for their families, ending hunger and food insecurity long into future. And families can sell the excess to provide for other vital needs like education and medical care.

Through your support, these hunger relief measures are preventing health problems like stunted growth, malnutrition, anemia and more. They also boast the socio-economic growth in our communities.

Building Sustainable Futures

To break cycles of poverty and dependency, we recognize the interconnected needs of vulnerable communities and take a holistic approach to build pathways out of poverty.

We believe in empowering the locals; women and youths to drive economic and social growth of their own communities through social enterprises that promote education, health and economic development (skills training and job creation)

Dignity in Aging

Many older people in Uganda struggle to bring in a reliable income and are vulnerable to living in poverty. Many live in chronic ill health or have disabilities that limit their ability to lead independent lives and participate in their local communities.

Yet countless older people have the responsibility of caring for orphaned grandchildren who have lost their parents to AIDS or other diseases.

BHU works with different volunteers and partners to improve health services for older people, and support them with socio-economic aid and welfare items

Power of sports to transform lives

This Program is dedicated to empowering young people through the transformative power of sports. By supporting village football teams, we create opportunities for youth to develop physically, mentally, and socially while building a brighter future for themselves and their communities.

The program actively promotes gender equality by encouraging boys and girls to take leadership roles both on and off the court. It creates opportunities for them to become role models, mentors, and advocates within their communities, inspiring youths to pursue their dreams with confidence.

Through sports, participants gain a sense of belonging and empowerment that extends into their families and communities.
